Separate Baptist Churches

Sandy Creek Baptist Church - Shubal Stearns (January 28, 1706 - November 20, 1771) born in Boston, Massachusetts in 1706 after hearing a revival conducted by George Whitefield, he became a Baptist minister of the "New Lights" or "Separate Baptist". Along with his brother-in-law Daniel Marshall they move to North Carolina. They settle along the Sandy Creek in Liberty, Randolph County, North Carolina in what started out as a small congregation within two years grew to more than 600 members. Many Baptist churches can trace their history through the Sandy Creek. Members of the Sandy Creek moved back north into Tennessee and Kentucky and helped form many of the churches that we have today.
